Available for all Bullet models, the infrared bean temperature sensor (IBTS) is our patented solution one of the most basic problems confronting roasters: bad bean temperature data. Roasting professionals understand that traditional bean temperature probes found in other roasters are influenced by external variables that have nothing to do with the actual temperature of the beans they are made to measure — bean probe types and tolerances, probe placement, and even varying batch size can have dramatic impacts on their readings.

So how does one adopt a data-driven approach to roasting when the most basic data point in coffee roasting — bean temperature — can't be trusted? How do you compare two different profiles with first crack temperatures that vary by as much as 20 degrees Celsius? The answer is: You can't. That's why we sidestep the limitations of bean probes altogether by providing a new way to measure the temperature of the beans in the drum: infrared sensors. With the IBTS, you will know exactly at which temperature your beans will reach first crack, no matter the batch size, for consistent repeatability. The most green and efficient way to generate heat from electricity is through induction, and the R2 series features our most powerful — and precise — induction modules yet. Our resident flamethrower, the Bullet R2 Pro provides 14 progressive power steps up to 2300 watts, while the Bullet R2 offers 10 steps up to 1700 watts, and the classic Bullet R1 offers 9 steps up to 1550 watts. All three Bullet models deliver heat with remarkable precision, for repeatable results.

The Bullet R1’s induction board is accurate up to +/-2%, while the Bullet R2 and R2 Pro are even more precise, with only a +/-0.5% margin of error. Crucially, thanks to the responsiveness of induction heating, any power adjustment made during a roast will not only be accurate, but also speedy — it's a feeling akin to roasting with gas. This is because, unlike other electric coffee roasters, there are no heating elements. Instead, induction creates heat directly within the drum itself.
